Hard days planning

Spent most of the day today working with my business mentor Netta. She is brilliant if you need one. Have a look at www.management-matters.co.uk we decided that my site needs some news stories to keep parents involved on the latest sleep related research. We have also decided to restrict the Forum to those people who have purchased the Baby Sleep System. These are the people who need real support and the Forum will mean that everybody is in the same boat together.

One to one mentoring

29th November

Today I had a one to one mentoring session with a lady called Lynda. She has been using the Baby Sleep System for about a week, but is finding it difficult because she is attempting to get a baby and a toddler to sleep through at the same time. Having discussed what is going wrong, we looked at the routine that she has put together and made some minor adjustments. We decided that with these adjustments, her baby should settle better tonight. Her older son, however, was going to require a bit more work. I suggested that she tried a reward scheme that I have reviewed on the web site. I arranged to meet with her at the same time next week.

The campaign to get more sleep related advice into post and ante-natal groups is progressing. In the next few days, there should be a campaign page on www.babysleepanswers.co.uk so that all my clients can follow the progress.

The new Forum is also getting very busy, particularly the support section which helps people who are currently implementing the Baby Sleep System.

The Story So Far

28th November 2006

Since having my first baby back in 1999 I have become increasingly disappointed with the support given to parents around the issue of their baby and toddler sleep problems. It has been well documented that post-natal depression can in a high % of cases be linked to lack of sleep. It seems to have become the “norm” to teach parents that they must expect no sleep and that the baby will eventually sleep through when it is ready. This advice may well be accurate in the first weeks or months of a babies life, but by the time the child is 6 months old they may have developed habits that mean it could be years before they ‘go through’.

I believe that teaching about baby’s sleep should be an integral part of all ante-natal classes. Parents should be given spoken and written advice about techniques to use that will get their babies to sleep through the night quicker. I also believe that post-natal support classes should be offered for parents who are struggling because of their own lack of sleep. For these reasons I have established the Baby Sleep System and the web site that hosts it www.babysleepanswers.co.uk. The Baby Sleep System is also available as a training course for groups of up to 12 at a venue near you. See the website for details.
